Description:
Abraham Prescott made 147 bass viols in Deerfield, New Hampshire, 1809-29, lived in Concord from 1831 to 1833, and started a chain of piano, melodeon, organ, and stringed and wind instrument makers there. At first sales were regional by peddling or at the store attached to the workshop. Many details are assembled from surviving instruments, business accounts, city directories, newspaper advertisements, and local histories.
