- Description:
- As it holds the first primary of the season, New Hampshire has held much greater importance in selecting the parties' nominees than its small population might otherwise suggest. Perhaps because of its critical role in the primary process, New Hampshire's population is more engaged and involved in the primary process than those in many other states; in addition to recording a high voter turnout, many citizens attend rallies, speeches, and meetings with candidates. Due to its placement on the primary calendar and its engaged citizenry, most presidential candidates devote a great deal of time campaigning in New Hampshire with the hope that a win can bring momentum in later primaries.
