- Description:
- The Shaker meetinghouse at Enfield, New Hampshire, was "the eighth of ten remarkable meetinghouses." Designed and framed by Brother Moses Johnson, master builder, it was altered in 1815 to provide more space. When membership in the community declined after the 1850's the old church became less important, and from 1889 ceased to be used on a regular basis. In 1902 Annetta and Louis Saint-Gaudens purchased the structure, dismantled it, and had it erected, with modifications, at Cornish, New Hampshire, where it still stands, as the Saint-Gaudens' National Historic Site.
