The Caleb Stark papers consist of 38 items, the bulk of which are correspondence or personal writings and journals or notebooks. There is a folder of correspondence solely to and from the elder Caleb Stark, as well one with slightly later correspondence concerning and involving the younger Caleb Stark. The elder Caleb Stark's correspondence includes a request for compensation from the American Revolution, the government response to concerns regarding British ships, attempts to get his relatives a government position, and a description of Maisillon, OH. One of Caleb Stark, Jr.'s correspondents is Levi Woodbury. Within the collection are three folders containing journals that include details of three separate trips westward made by the younger Caleb Stark, embarked on in the early 1820s. Following that, are two folders containing original manuscripts by Caleb Stark Junior, mostly of poetry with some prose and commentary interspersed. The last folder in the collection deals with correspondence and documents related to other members of the Stark Family, some of the materials regarding travel arrangements with the British government dated 1812 to 1848.
