Scope and Content:
The New Hampshire Conference of Social Welfare Records, 1937-1947, contains administrative records for the Conference. The bulk of these records center on preparations for their annual meetings, held in Manchester, NH. These include invitations to individual speakers, officer nominations, membership rolls, meeting minutes, and, from 1940, fundraising drives. The collection also includes correspondence between the Conference and other Social Welfare organizations in New England and Canada, including the Boy Scouts of America, Catholic orphanages in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, the Canadian Welfare Council, and the National Board of Public Welfare. The collection provides insight into the aims and concerns of social workers before, during, and after the Second World War. It is also a window into the efforts of the Conference to be recognized as an influential body despite its volunteer status.
