The Isaac Hill Papers, 1777-1873, consist of Isaac Hill's correspondence throughout his professional career, personal account books, deeds, insurance policies, invitations, miscellaneous family papers, and correspondence from the Montgomery and West families.
Scope and Content:
The Isaac Hill Papers, 1777-1873, consist primarily of Isaac Hill's correspondence throught his professional career. Some notable correspondents include General Duff Green, Levi Woodbury, Andrew Jackson, Amos Kendall, Benjamin Pierce, Jedidiah Morse, Hezekiah Niles, William Curtis Noyes, Charles Hazen Peaslee, William Plumer, and Daniel Webster. The correspondence relates to the New Hampshire Patriot, which Hill published; Democratic party politics, and Democratic opposition to the Whig Party. Also included are Isaac Hill's personal account books, deeds, insurance policies, and invitations to him and his wife. Approximately 100 items in this collection relate specifically to Isaac Hill's involvement in a libel suit brought against him in 1846, Alanson Cook v. Isaac Hill. There is also a small collection of miscellaneous Hill family papers, as well as papers from William P. Hill and correspondence from the Montgomery and West families.
