The Fabyan House in Carroll, New Hampshire, was built in 1872 to 1873 and replaced an earlier hotel on the site that was destroyed by fire. It opened to guests in August 1873, offering 250 rooms and a dining hall that could seat 400 people. It sat at the terminus of the Portland & Ogdensburg and the Boston, Concord, and Montreal railroads. The building was large, efficient, and modern but also boxy and industrial-looking despite some Italian Revival architectural elements. Asa T. Barron and his son Oscar G. Barron leased the Fabyan in 1879; the family firm eventually purchased it in 1913 from the Boston and Maine Railroad in partnership with John N. Conygham. After the Barrons sold the hotel in the 1930s it survived until burning on September 19, 1951.
