The Young Men's Taft Club of Nashua began with a meeting on March 7, 1912, for those interested in advocating for President Taft's re-nomination by the Republican Party. Finding sufficient enthusiasm, the club formed and held its first meeting on March 15. This was four days before Taft was due to visit New Hampshire. Other Taft clubs existed by this time in Concord, Manchester, and Portsmouth, among other communities. During March and April Nashua's Taft Club held meetings and released polital ads in the Nashua Telegraph pushing for Taft's re-nomination by the Republican Party. At this time Taft was facing competition from the former president Theodore Roosevelt for the Republican nomination at the party's national convention to be held in Chicago in June. Members of the Nashua Roosevelt League and the Taft Club sought to influence the district and state conventions in advance of the selection of delegates for the national convention.
