- Spokeshave, wood, steel, and brass,1820-1860. Central area has two adjustable brass thumb screws. These are fastened to handle with lozenge-shaped brass plates that are flush to surface. Each plate has two screws to fasten it down. These thumb nuts have threaded shafts that are part of elongated, slightly convex blade that is horizontally oriented. Inlaid, flat brass plate fastened by two flathead steel screws. Thumb nuts adjust thickness of cut taken from wood.
