- Provenance:
- According to a family genealogy, Abraham Batchelder (b.1721) of Exeter, NH, moved with his family to Loudon in 1763. His son, Abraham Batchelder (1744-1836), married Anna Judkins (1750-1836) on May 7, 1772, in Loudon. They cleared a farm, built a house, and raised a family at Loudon Center. Their son Jonathan Batchelder (1790-1873) married Lois Wells (1795-1881) on January 2, 1814, and they eventually took over the family farm. Based on its style, form, and finish, the chest of drawers probably dates between 1800 and 1820. It remained in the Batchelder family for five generations until it was sold at an auction of the contents of the house at Loudon Center by Albert Bachelder (1914-1993) on September 24, 1988, Christopher Wallenstein, Auctioneer. It was purchased and remained in a private collection until 2020, when purchased by the donors.
