Medicine bottle in original box, Fink's Magic Oil, H. G. G. Fink, Springdale, PA.

A. Bottle. Clear glass. Rectangular body with beveled corners, rounded shoulders, recessed panels on all four sides and bottom, and cylindrical neck. Vertical embossed lettering on front: "FINK'S / MAGIC OIL. / 25 CENTS."; on right side: "FINK'S"; and on left side: "SPRINGDALE, PA." Cork stopper. Bottle contains residue of thick dark brown liquid.

B. Tan cardboard box, 4.4" high x 1.6" wide x 1" deep. Black printing on all sides. Front: "FINK'S / Magic Oil / PRICE, 25 CENTS. / THE ABOVE IS MY / TRADE MARK", with image of Magic Oil bottle tied with ribbon that reads "FOR PAINS AND ACHES". Back: "FINK'S / MAGIC OIL. / A Liberal Offer. / [guarantee and list of uses] / Price, 25 Cents." Left side: "Find Full Directions Inside." Trademark statement on right side. Bottom: "PENN PAPER BOX / COMPANY. / PITTSBURGH, PA." Tax stamp on top flap. Printed sheet inside with directions in English and German.

Provenance:

Part of the Wilfred B. Osgood Pharmacy Collection, consisting of the 1870s-1950s contents of the Knox Pharmacy (owned by Fred L. Knox) and Roberts Rexall Store (owned by George C. Roberts) in Farmington, NH. Wilfred Osgood purchased both pharmacies in the late 1940s/early 1950s, and kept the original furnishings from both stores. During the 1970s, he created a pharmacy display room from the contents of both stores. This collection is the contents of that display. The collection also includes manuscripts, books, photographs, and printed ephemera, transferred to NHHS library (1992-068.)
