Isaac Cole (1769-1854) moved from Methuen, MA, to Franconia, NH, around 1814 to superintend the pattern and wood working department of the New Hampshire Iron Factory Company. Cole next lived in Franklin before moving on to Lake Village, today the Lakeport section of Laconia, in 1827, where he operated an iron foundry. He eventually sold the business to his three sons who, through a succession of partnerships, produced iron ware, plows, stoves, and fittings. In 1846, brothers John A. Cole (1801-1866) and Benjamin J. Cole (1814-1899) took John Davis, 2nd, into partnership as Cole, Davis & Co., which operated until 1857. In 1873 the company was again reorganized as the Cole Manufacturing Company, focusing on the production of railroad car axles, textile mill machinery, and tools, until purchased by the Scott & Williams Company, c. 1919.
