William Yeardley Stanley (1807-1878) was the son of William and Mary Yeardley Stanley, born in Windham, VT. By 1810 the Stanley family had moved to Dublin, NH, where William Y. grew to adulthood. By 1829 William moved to Peterborough, when his parents moved to McDonough, NY. He worked as a machinist in Peterborough through the late 1840s, probably building and maintaining textile mill machinery. By 1850 Stanley and his family had moved to Winchendon, MA, where he lived and worked as a machinist until his death in 1878.
