Description:
Quilt Top. Pieced of large diamonds of late 18th-century dress cotton calicoes. The diamonds measure approximately 10.5" square and alternate between a white ground floral vine print and a dark brown ground floral vine print. They are block-printed and have pencil blue coloring. The outer half-diamonds (triangles) that edge the quilt top are a different calico, with a black ground and blue polka dots and bouquets of red flowers (also block-printed). This calico appears to have once been glazed. The pieces are reused from prior forms, as many blocks are pieced. The top is all hand-stitched.
