Shortly thereafter Hill became the sole proprietor of the business, which he continued until 1865, when the firm of James R. Hill Company was formed. James R. Hill's business expanded supplying markets around the world with high quality leather harnesses. Hill invested extensively in Concord real estate, building several business blocks and the Phenix Hotel. Hill married Sophia Lyford Pickering (1828-1889) of Barnstead, NH, in 1854. Born in 1867, Cora Frances Hill, married John Ingalls Monroe on December 27, 1894. The Society owns Cora Frances Hill's wedding dress and accessories, and photographs.
