Provenance:
Belonged to Frank H. Chapman (1848-1901), member of the Concord lodge of the Knights Templar. He owned and operated F. H. Chapman & Co., a drugstore in Franklin, from 1875 until 1893, when he took on a partner, Charles Eddy, who ran the store after Chapman's death. The donor's father, Herbert Hancock (1888-1954), also a druggist, worked for Charles Eddy in Franklin and later ran a drugstore in Concord. The sword was apparently acquired by Herbert Hancock from Charles Eddy.
