- Engraving. Portrait of Robert Walpole (1676-1745). Engraved by H. Robinson. Steel engraving printed on paper. Waist length portrait of a standing man with a white wig with rolled curls, white cravat, waist coat, with white ruffles at the wrist, sash running from the right shoulder to the left waist, star medallion on the left front jacket, sword at left waist, facing left. In the foreground his right hand rests on an open book and papers on a table. Also on the table is a family crest and in the background on the right side is a drape and on the left side a scene with trees and clouds. "Engraved by H. Robinson.", "ROBERT WALPOLE. EARL OF ORFORD.", "OB.1746", "FROM THE ORIGINAL OF JARVIS IN THE COLLECTION OF / THOMAS WALPOLE ESQre.", "London, Published Dec. 1,1836 by Harding Lepard, Pall Mall East." printed beneath the portrait. On the reverse in pencil in the top center "I" and printed in pencil in the top right side "Purchased April / 1980, from Colborn / 8 Tegg, Hollis, N.Y. / $3.50"
