- Engraving. Portrait of John Stark (1728-1822). Engraved by Alexander H. Ritchie (1822-1895). Steel engraving, printed on paper. Bust-length portrait of an older middle-aged man facing right, high forehead, fairly long white hair, short sideburn, wearing dark military-style coat with short-wide lapels, tall folded-over collar, dark colored shoulder boards and epaulets. Right hand tucked into his coat front with wide cuff on coat with 3 buttons showing top edge of cuff, light-colored ruffles showing from end of cuff. Portion of vest with collar with notch, light colored stock and cravat. Medium gray background over shoulders. Facsimile signature below portrait: "John Stark". Below that is a piece of laid paper glued to sheet 0.7" x 2.4" with dark brown ink: "John Stark". Upper left corner of sheet is a portion of a character in script then an "M" then short line. On back upper left corner in pencil printed: "V 757 / A 939p". Below image in center: "EndD. by A H. Ritchie."
