- Engraving. Portrait of John Stark (1728-1822). Engraved by Thomas R. Holland. Steel engraving, printed on paper. Bust-length portrait of an older man facing right, has very high forehead, long light-colored hair, wearing dark military-style coat with high turned-over collar, shoulder boards and epaulets, light colored shirt with turned up collar, dark tie similar to a stock. Light gray background above shoulders. Facsimile signature: "John Stark / M. G." Below that is a piece of laid paper glued to the front 1.1" x 3.6" with "John Stark.." In the engraving name bottom center: "T. R. Holland." Frontispiece from Caleb Stark, Memoir and Official Correspondence of Gen. John Stark...1860.
