Bust-length engraving of older middle-aged man facing right with long white hair, medium-length white goatee; wearing dark coat with wide lapels and collar, dark vest with collar, 2 buttons, white shirt with folded-over collar, dark colored tie with large knot. Chain over vest leading from top button leading down and to his left. Fairly light graduated gray background over his shoulders and sides of head. "R. Nelson" facsimile signature below portrait. Near bottom: "Engraved for the Methodist Quarterly Review." Underneath image at edge "EngD by A H Ritchie, N. A."
