Bust-length portrait of a man facing right, high forehead, thin curly hair combed front, sideburns, dark colored coat, short lapels, long high collar, 4 buttons, dark-colored vest with angular cuts along edges, white colored shirt with short turned up collar and white stock and possibly white cravat. Dark gray background set into vertical rectangular format. This is set into white rectangle. Facsimile signature: "John McLane" beneath portrait. Above this under image: "JOHN MC.LANE." Bottom image" Engraved by W. G. Armstrong from a Painting by T. Sully in possession of B. W. Richards EsqR."
