Bust-length portrait of a an older middle aged man facing left, thin hair parted on left, wearing glasses, dark coat, high vest with 2 buttons, two light-colored jewelry chains on vest, dark line running from his left collar across shirt and vest and under coat, white shirt with short up-right collar, dark bow tie, rectangular ornament on shirt below tie; gray background over shoulders and around head that is slightly darker above his left shoulder to indicate shadow. Light highlights on face. Facsimile signature: "Geo F Hoar". Pencil notation on back of "George F. Hoar". Under image: "EngD. by A. H. Ritchie."
