Bust-length portrait of a young middle-aged man, facing slightly left, long dark wavy hair, long sideburns, trim beard, military uniform tunic-style coat, 12 buttons, coat buttoned on right side, epaulets both shoulders, left shoulder's epaulet is small ship's anchor on surface, other round decorations on epaulet top surface, coat raised collar with alternating stripes, bit of white shirt collar above coat collar; light gray background behind man. Facsimile signature below portrait: "S. F. DuPont". Below that are 2 lines: "Rear Adm. Samuel F. Dupont, U. S. N. / PUBLISHED BY J. C. BUTTRE, 48 Franklin St., New York."
