- Engraving. Portrait of William Jennings Demorest (1822-1895) and Ellen Louise Demorest (1824-1898). Engraved by Alexander H. Ritchie (1822-1895) Steel engraving, printed on paper. Bust-length portrait of a middle-age man and woman facing right, almost profile images, man with dark thinning hair, long beard, mustache, sideburns, dark coat, one button hole right lapel, dark vest, white shirt, two buttons showing, three-colored tie. Behind him is a woman, dark hair with two small hair buns on top of her head, dark dress, left lapel pin of scissors suspended from small chain, ruffled collar in front of blouse, possibly a dark band around collar. Small gray background. Left side on bottom edge of portrait "Printed by Vommel & Voigt N Y" and on right bottom edge of portrait: "Engraved by A. H. Ritchie." Below portrait engraved "W. JENNINGS DEMOREST & MME. DEMOREST." Below that in italics "Demorest Monthly Magazine 1877."
