- Portrait of Sophia Lyford Pickering Hill (1828-1889), unknown artist, c. 1855. Oil on canvas. Half-length portrait of woman facing slightly right; eyes toward viewer. Sitter has center-parted black hair that covers ears; blue eyes. She is wearing a black silk dress, white lace collar and cuffs, enamel drop earrings, large enamel brooch, and gold watch fob at waist. Seated in red upholstered chair left. Unsigned. Gilded gesso over wood frame, grapevine exterior, shells and c-scroll corners, gilded oval mat with center cartouches.
