- Portrait of James Riggs Hill (1821-1884), unknown artist, c. 1855. Oil on canvas. Half-length portrait of a man facing slightly left; eyes toward viewer. Sitter had black hair parted on right, black eyebrows and beard; blue eyes. He is wearing a black coat and waistcoat, black stock with bow, white shirt with standing collar, and two brass buttons on shirt front. Graduated gray and brown background with dark vertical area right. Unsigned. Gilded gesso over wood frame, grapevine exterior, shells and c-scroll corners, gilded oval mat with center cartouches.
