Ellie Strickland Savoy (1913-2003) was the daughter of Stella Pollard Strickland (1895-1993). Both made pine needle baskets. They learned the craft in the 1950s in Florida from basket makers who worked in the Native American tradition. Ellie said she was taught by "an elderly gentleman." She used the same patterns as her mother. They used long pine needles and fibers (probably raffia) from Florida. Stella lived in Lincoln, NH, before moving to Woodsville with her young daughter Ellie.

Donor bought the basket from Sue Urton of Pembroke, NH, daughter of Ellie.
