On front of handle are six stems beginning at bowl, which proceed up the shaft and split into three smaller stems on either side of the handle, ending in a mass of leaves and scrolls. On reverse of spoon, back of bowl, is floral decoration. Emanating from that bowl decoration are six floral stems leading up handle, which split into three stems on either side of the handle. On back of handle are clusters of leaves at regular intervals. At end of reverse of handle, the stems converge into a series of leaves and swirls. Upper-case black letter "F" engraved on front of handle. On back of bowl and shaft are several marks: within bowl decoration is the upper-case script letter, "D" (for Durgin); on back of shaft is "STERLING" in upper-case roman letters (these two marks are part of the casting); and stamped on back of shaft, in upper case roman letters, "J.C DERBY" (note that the bottoms of the letters are cut off, making it look equally like DERRY).
