Provenance:
Donor says these shoes came from the present French family in Marlow, NH (near Sand Pond). He claims that records exist that show these shoes sold for 12 cents a pair from Brockton, MA, for export to Cuba (through a commission agent). He believes these were probably farmed out to homes to be made (in part?), as this farm had its own tannery, sawmill, sap house, etc. There is also a machine there that made shoe buttons.
