- Tapestry
- Object ID:
- 2002.646.06.1
- Date:
- 1880-1910
- Description:
- Tapestry. Machine-woven cotton. Depicts a pseudo-17th-century scene of three young women being addressed by two cavaliers with long curls and up-turned moustaches. One man bows, holding his plumed hat under his arm, while the other fellow gestures with a rose in his hand. The women's dresses are fantasy concoctions melding 17th-century and late Victorian fashions. In the background is a European folly type of building and trees. Colors are purposely very muted to suggest age. It is edged on three sides with a heavy pink silk and cotton cord, and a brass hanging rod is attached by rings across the top. Unlined.
