Description:
Five coasters or mats, all constructed of heavy plain-weave off-white cotton; the threads of the weave are 3-ply S-twist. The mats are embroidered with red Berlin wool yarns in cross stitch with a border pattern suggestive of a stylized floral pattern. The mats are self-fringed. Two (d, e) are small squares, which are appropriately sized for coasters. One (c) is a small rectangle; another (b) is a slightly longer rectangle, and the fifth mat (a) is a large square probably intended as a lamp mat (note the stain from an octagonal base--typical of pressed glass kerosene lamps).
