- Description:
- Quilt. "Star of Bethlehem" pattern; patchwork. Several solid red and white fabrics pieced out as necessary. Border large red and white right angle triangles, white binding. Backing same wite fabrics. Hand pieced, machine quilted. Pieced crib quilt, with a central Sunburst motif of solid red and white cottons, set on a white background, and bordered on three sides with a sawtooth pattern, also in red and white. An additional red triangle is machine-appliqued in the white field in one corner. The piecing is all done by hand; the center section has a cotton batting; the borders have no batting. The quilting is all done by machine in parallel lines generally converging into the center, but without much concern for regularity of spacing between the lines of stitching. The backing is plain muslin and the binding is back to front along the border edges, and straight-grain red cotton along the top edge. The quilt is very poorly constructed so that it does not lie flat, but ripples in every direction.
