- Description:
- Quilt. Whole-cloth, wool; constructed from two different but similar quilts, both with a top of green plain-woven wool that's been professionally finished, and backs of golden yellow plain-woven homespun. There is no linen in this quilt, despite the history. The backing fabric at least is certainly produced in the home. The yarns are Z twist, and it's woven at 23 x 23 ends per inch. The quilting pattern, stitched with green worsted thread at 8 stitches to the inch, is a diamond grid design, with four closely spaced parallel lines alternating with three wider spaced lines. The piecing of the two quilts together was carefully done to match the quilting pattern as closely as possible. One side of the quilt, and a bit of another, has a front to back edge finish. The other sides have a knife edge; one edge is machine-stitched.
