- Description:
- Quilt. Pieced with a framed center design made of several different eighteenth-century calimancos; satin-woven glazed worsted, often woven with a stripe. The center of this cut-out corner quilt is made of a glazed worsted with satin-woven figured stripes; one stripe is shaded pinks with a woven figure of a circle and four-dot pattern; the other is cream woven with a carnation-like flower in pink and green. The drops of the quilt are made of solid bright pink calimanco bordered with yellow and pink striped calimanco. The drop on the right side is pieced out at the bottom with a red glazed damask worsted, and the stripe is pieced out with a different yellow striped calimanco. The cut-outs feature a circular cut out for the foot posts at the inside corner. The edges of the quilt are bound with red wool tape stitched on the bias (possibly a replacement). The backing is a plain-woven creamy yellow wool, with a 30" selvedge width; Z-twist yarns, 34 x 17 ends per inch; it is probably homespun and home-woven. Quilting is worked in cream-colored worsted thread at 7 stitches to the inch, with a design of a triple diamond grid filled with four-lobed design.
