- Description:
- Quilt. Made by Julianna P. M. Walker (1825-1910), Chelsea, MA; 1860-1875. Applique, with LeMoyne stars in a double pink calico distributed in diagonal rows across quilt. This pattern is generally pieced, so this treatment is very unusual. Also unusual is the use of piping set in the seams of the stars, from the center to the inside corners of the points. The stars are set on a plain muslin foundation. The backing is also muslin, and the quilt is bound with the pink calico stitched on the straight grain. The quilting is done with white cotton thread at 7 stitches to the inch, following the piecing of the stars, and in a chevron throughout the background. Batting is white cotton.
