Log Cabin type, in the Barn Raising set; Friendship; foundation-pieced of various dress calicoes in shades of brown and white. The centers of the squares are red wool. The blocks are inked with names on the printed calico "logs." The muslin foundations of the blocks are turned under and stitched together on the back, in a variation of the "quilt as you go" method. The edges are bound with solid brown cotton on the straight grain. There is a small muslin label stitched to the back that is stenciled with the name "Oliver Pierce." Inscribed in ink at the center top of the back is: "Mr. & Mrs. Owen / Dear Friends, / Here is a small token of our regard. Hoping you / will be pleased with it, and as you read the / names, some times think of the friends whose / busy fingers thought of you, and yours. / In Friendship, Love & Truth, / L. Corson M. Leighton / E. Knox / Milton, N. H., March 19, 1877."
