- Description:
- Tablecover. Handwoven white linen patterned weave (circles and square motifs). Blue floral design outlined. Outline was for embroidery which apparently was taken out. cross stitch initials in one corner, "AH"; written in the same corner, "M.J. Coe". Small table cover or towel of natural-colored linen woven in a Bronson weave pattern of blocks of circles, each centered with a square, alternating with square blocks. Two sides are selvedge, and the top and bottom edges are hemmed by hand. One corner is marked in brown silk cross stitch, "A / H." Also in the same corner is an inked inscription, only partially legible, possibly "M. J. Coe" followed by an indecipherable marking, possibly a number or year. Each end of the piece is marked with a blue outline of an embroidery pattern; old stitch holes indicate that the embroidery was removed. The motifs look like aquatic flowers. The embroidery pattern was added in the late 19th or early 20th century.
