Comforter pieced in solid red and white with a block design of an eight-pointed star (LeMoyne Star) set within a larger diamond in a square block. There are 49 blocks (7 x 7), straight set, with red sashing. The white areas of the blocks are signed in ink with the names of members of the Salem, NH, Congregational Society. The names all appear to have been written by one person, as the script is consistent. The center block is inscribed, "Merry Christmas 1909 / Salem, N. H. / Congregational Society to / M. V. McAlister / Minister / made by Aunt Delia." Tied with white cotton string at the corners of the piecing in the blocks. The backing fabric is a red and white windowpane check. Back to front binding.
