- Description:
- Potholder, consisting of a layer of embroidered plain-woven cotton on a layer of blue and white checked linen. The cotton is embroidered with crewel yarns in pink, blue, and gold colors, with a meandering vine design around the edges, with the inside corners terminating in a stylized floral motif. A similarly stylized iris design is worked in the center. The embroidery is so worn away that the exact stitches used cannot be discerned, but outline stitches are evident. The potholder is bound with a coarse cotton fabric block-printed with a red and brown floral design; the binding is cut on the straight grain.
