- Marking sampler. No name or date. Embroidered with linen threads in two shades of blue on a plain-woven linen ground. An alphabet of fancy block capital letters is worked in dark blue cross stitches like a border around the four sides of the sampler: A though F, then G through M, then N through S, and T through Z. In the center, in lighter blue cross stitched, is "W U / S M / N Z G / L D." All four sides of the linen fabric are hemmed.
