- Marking sampler. Made by Irene Hooper, no date. Unfinished, worked in cross stitch with silk, cotton, and possibly linen threads on a plain-woven cotton/linen ground. Various colored threads: pink, blue, mauve, and green are silk; cream is probably linen, brown and black are probably cotton. First line: A through L in fancy block capitals in cream; second line: M though W (skipping U) in cream, blue and black cross stitches; third line: XYZIRENEHO; fourth line: OPER * DIHWD"; fifth line appears to be random letters: "OPEDRDXHDD." More letters are worked around the edges of the sampler, like a border: WOWWaaW / aabcdefghDA / AAD[?]HIH." The whole is bordered by a simple line of blue cross stitching. The lower half inside the border is blank. Edges of ground fabric are hemmed.
