Rug. Machine-woven pile, with a wool supplementary weft that creates a brushy pile on both sides, making the rug reversible. The warp is black cotton and the weft is formed of bundles of either cotton or hemp yarns, so the structure under the pile resembles a woven rag carpet and the surface texture is slightly ribbed. The design of the rug is inspired by Oriental carpets, with three stepped oval medallions in the center on a rich red ground with faux abrash, surrounded by a green border filled with other geometric motifs. Other colors used in the rug besides the dark red and green are yellow, white, blue, pale olive, and black. The sides of the rug are selvedge and the ends are covered with maroon and green wool yarns knotted over the cut ends to keep them from raveling the yarns form a fringe.
