- Object Name:
- Drawknife
- Object ID:
- 1979.070.117
- Description:
- Drawknife. Wood, steel, and wrought iron. Bent drawknife. Clearance between handles: 11.9". Left hand blade width: 1.8", right one: 1.7" Inside gap between blades: 2.5". Clearance above blade: 2.1". Two medium-brown, oval cross-section, slightly tapering handles that have tangs of draw knife pass through them. Ends turned over at back of handles and both turned upward. Appears that drawknife blade assembly perhaps bent so handles should be further apart at their back ends. Right hand blade, also seems to be twisted downward as well. Left hand blade, flat on bottom with line where steel welded to wrought iron handle. Blade has shallow bevel along back edge to create cutting edge. A little chamfer on side of edge of shaft. Wrought iron shaft flat on bottom, top surface has shallow curve across top. Front edge of shaft flat. In blade area on both side, small, tapering scalloped edge. Also on bottom, small, not-quite-as deep a scallop on both blade shafts in front of blade area. Shaft then bends straight upward. 90-degree bend at top where it goes across then bends 90 degrees downward to meet other cutting blade area in similarly configured shaft. On raised section in center, inside edges flat. Front and back edges flat and outside surfaces curved like the rest of shaft area. On other side of center, cutting blade not quite as wide, but similar in formation to left side. With regard to bottom plane of left cutting surface, right-hand cutting surface tips downward near the center. Sections of shallow grooves on bottom surface of right-hand cutting area.
