Chamfer starts in notch slightly above mid-point at front edge and extends upward to square front corner. Then it extends along top edge to rounded back corner. Then it extends downward to notch. Chamfer on right side mirrors that on left. Inlaid handle missing, but spot for it measures 5.3" long x 0.95" wide. Remnants of drill hole in back of cavity where inlay handle assembly would rest which helped determine curved back edge. Numerous chisel marks bottom of cavity which is evidence of how material chipped out. Several hammer marks on heel. Iron stuck in place and somewhat corroded. Corners clipped at shallow angle; top edge flat and has couple small spots where it is turned over along back top edge. Oval stamp on front, all caps, top of oval: "WARRANTED". Bottom oval: "CAST STEEL". Center of oval is plane, raised surface. Looks to have serrated edges in some segments of outer and inner edge of oval. Text somewhat corroded.
