- Object Name:
- Plane
- Object ID:
- 1979.070.096
- Description:
- Plane, molding. Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood. Narrow annular rings showing on sides and ends. Some grain flecks showing on both sides. Chamfer starts in notch halfway up on front, leads to square front end that is worn, small chamfer leads across top edge to slightly boat-tailed rear end and then proceeds down side all the way to bottom. Right side chamfer mirrors left side. Cutting surface concave. Groove ~1.3" wide. No iron. Mouth width 1.3". Groove depth 0.4". Edges of sole are somewhat worn and rounded upward slightly at front and back. Bottom of sole surface slightly worn at front edge in particular. Slight wear patterns in sides of body due to years of use wearing away material. Some hammer marks on heel. Configuration of bed indicates that there was a backing iron that bolted onto the iron because there is a slot in bed for the bolt head. Front edge of mouth has been cut in a curve. Guidelines for bed plane are still evident on sides of body where dirt has filled lines.
