Object Name:
Plane
Object ID:
1979.070.086
Description:
Plane, molding. "M W". Dark brown, fine-grained hardwood. Annular rings show on both sides. Chamfer starts about halfway up on front edge, extends to square front corner, goes along top to rounded back corner, extends partway down side and stops approximately extension top edge. Chamfer on right side starts at top of extension and mirrors that on left side. Top of extension is slightly concave. Cutting pattern is for a rabbet. Iron missing but width would probably be ~0.5". Hole through body near back and top. It was created by being slightly gouged out from both sides. At moment it is barely open. A couple of small horizontal cracks in heel above extension. Stamps on toe. Stamp of two letters "MW" vertically oriented, facing left side. Halfway up is "MW" horizontally oriented inverted. Left, right, and heel surfaces have some abrasion marks that were probably due to sanding after manufacture.
