- Description:
- Plane, molding. "T TILESTON", "BOSTON". Light-brown, fine-grained hardwood. Wide annular rings left side. Chamfer starts notch front about halfway up, leads to square front corner, across top edge to back rounded corner and down side to a notch. Notch same height as top of extension on right side. Chamfer on right side mirrors that on left side. Top of extension is ever-so-slightly concave. On left side is curved chamfer that follows curvature of sole. It is in roughly a single plane. On left side is a wide, single-plane chamfer that follows sole. Surface on side of extension has been more recently removed and smoothed. Old finish on right side above extension is quite dark, relatively speaking. Newer surface on extension does have some age to it, however. Cutting surface of sole is concave. Based on sole, configuration is 0.95" wide. Iron missing. Depth of concavity is 1.4". Areas of fine cross-hatched patterns in wood on either side of extension, probably indicative of clamping tool in vise. Height of sole at front 2.8", height at back 2.8". Wedge loose, portions missing. Hammer marks on heel. Stamps on toe. Three vertically-oriented stamps at top of toe, face right side. Top is rectangular, serrated box, all caps, serif: "..TILESTON". Between this stamp and next one down is a plain edge. Next word italics, caps: "BOSTON". It has serrated bottom edge, left and right edges irregular. Below that, is mixed upper-lower case "...Street". In front of that "{Front}" mostly illegible.
