Object ID:

Description:
Plane, molding. Medium-brown hardwood. Chamfer starts at front, extends up front side to rounded front edge, extends across top to rounded back edge, extends all the way down to bottom edge. Chamfer on right side starts about one-third of way up and is equivalent to that on left side. Cutting surface is flat from left side to right side but is deeply concave from front to back. Height of curvature at center is 1.1" above a plane connecting front and back edges. Blade is angled back to left side at ~20 degrees. Diagonal blade length at mouth: 2.1". Effective cutting width: 2.06". Curved surface at bottom ~8" long from front to back. At front left and right edges curve upward slightly. At back, bottom edge is slightly rounded, probably due to wear. At bottom edge of plane on both sides, starting at front is a small groove that extends towards back. This groove appears to be from wear.On left side, near back is broken head of fastener protruding slightly from side. In back right corner of plane wood is a knot in wood and curvature of wood grain that has grown around knot. Cracks in this area probably due to influence of knot structure. Iron is heavy piece. Top edge turned over from being struck. It is stamped near top in curved letters "D...BTS...[Co]". Below is "WARRANTED" and below that is "CAST * STEEL".
