- Description:
- Plane, "L DODGE". Medium-brown hardwood, a few grain flecks show on left side. Annular grain rings show on both sides and heel. Sole surface has curve to it that curves up at front and back. Front height 2.3", back height 1.8". Cutting pattern flat surface. Iron width 0.9". Chamfer starts near top, square front corner, goes up to corner across top to rounded back corner and starts down side where it stops at a larger chamfer. Right side roughly mirrors left. Several flat chamfer planes that taper from mouth to toe and heel. They become wider as they approach ends. Some of chamfered surfaces look to have been cut by flat sanding device. Sole surface also has a number of flat planes in it to create curvature. Looks as is it has been somewhat crudely modified from its original configuration. Semi-circular throat area that tapers outward toward left side. Top edge of this opening curves backward to bed. Hammer marks on heel. Stamped on left side, inverted and struck twice: "L DODGE". Wood around "DODGE" is somewhat darkened. Lower stamp struck twice approximately 1/4" below first strike. It seems to pivot around the "E" so that subsequent letters away from "E" have a greater disparity. Iron has central tang. Removable. Horizontal bend in middle of tang; end turned over from having been struck. Various degrees inactive corrosion tang and blade. Portions of wedge missing at top end.
