- Description:
- Plane, "L DODGE". Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood with small grain flecks on both sides. Annular ring marks on both sides. Chamfering starts at front sole, goes up front to slightly rounded front corner, across top to rounded back corner and stops near sole. Chamfer on right side mirrors that on left side. Sole surface is rounded and curves toward top at front and back. Front height 1.3", rear height 0.85". Cutting pattern is V-shaped groove. Iron width 0.4". Sole surface consists of slightly irregular, flat chamfers from toe to heel that create a V-shape. In area of throat is additional concave groove in surface of flat chamfer. At front starting at toe is flat chamfer that leads downward, then makes a slightly flattened curve towards the throat area. Beyond throat, chamfer begins to curve back up toward heel. Near back are about three different segments of chamfer. Top of small extension has straight, flat groove in it. With different planes in sole surface chamfers and general outline of sole, one has to think plane modified after its original manufacture. Iron wedged. Inactive corrosion on its surfaces. End of iron tang slightly turned over. Stamp on left side of body, upside down: "L DODGE". Box stamp on toe, vertically oriented, facing left side. Not strong impression: "...rogatt".
